The regular pentagon had a symbolic meaning in the Pythagorean and Platonic philosophies and a subsequent important role in Western thought, appearing also in arts and architecture. A property of regular pentagons, which was probably discovered by the Pythagoreans, is that the ratio between the diagonal and the side of these pentagons is equal to the golden ratio. Here, we will study some relations existing between a regular pentagon and this ratio. First, we will focus on the group of fivefold rotational symmetry, to find the position in the complex plane of the vertices of this geometric figure. Then, we will propose an analytic method to solve the same problem based on the Cartesian coordinates, a method where we find the golden ratio without any specific geometric consideration. This study shows a comparison of the use of complex numbers, symmetries and analytic methods, applied to a subject which can be interesting for general education in mathematics. In fact, the proposed approach can convey and link several concepts, requiring only a general pre-college education, showing at the same time the richness that mathematics can offer in solving geometric problems.  相似文献

A method developed recently for obtaining indefinite integrals of functions obeying inhomogeneous second-order linear differential equations has been applied to obtain integrals with respect to the modulus of the complete elliptic integral of the third kind. A formula is derived which gives an integral involving the complete integral of the third kind for every known integral for the complete elliptic integral of the second kind. The formula requires only differentiation and can therefore be applied for any such integral, and it is applied here to almost all such integrals given in the literature. Some additional integrals are derived using the recurrence relations for the complete elliptic integrals. This gives a total of 27 integrals for the complete integral of the third kind, including the single integral given in the literature. Some typographical errors in a previous related paper are corrected.  相似文献

This paper proves that the ratios of consecutive terms of the m-bonacci sequence converge to a limit φm < 2 and, as m → ∞, these φm converge to 2. Further, it is shown that the generating functions for the m-bonacci sequences converge pointwise to the geometric series.  相似文献

Abstract

The 1-ethylmonocarboxylic acid of Malathion (MCA) was identified as a metabolite of Malathion in the gut of golden shiners (N. Chrysoleucas) (7.11 × 102±0.66 × 102 ng/g tissue). As noted in the literature the rate of hydrolysis of Malathion above pH 7 is first order with respect to Malathion and pH dependent. In addition, the rate of hydrolysis of Malathion in aquaria housing these fish was found to be dependent on the concentration of Ca+2; sparging the aquaria with air affected the rate. Some of the hydrolysis products of Malathion were identified by gc/ms and found to be pH dependent above pH 7. The half-life of Malathion under different conditions, the identification of some hydrolytic products and a general scheme for the analysis of Malathion, along with some of its metabolic and hydrolytic products are included in this paper.  相似文献

Finite-temperature behaviour of a hollow golden cage (HGC) plays a crucialrole in its potential applications as a catalyst, drug delivery agent, contrasting agent and so on. This physico-chemical property of HGCs is not well understood so far. In that context, Born–Oppenheimer molecular dynamics (BOMD) simulations are performed on a well-known ‘free-standing’ HGC. The cluster considered in this study is the ground state Au18 cluster (a cage with a diameter of about >5.5 Å). The results thus obtained are compared with the BOMD simulation results reported earlier on Au32 icosahedron cage, a conformation with a diameter of nearly. The sphericity of both the clusters is studied using a shape deformation parameter as a function of time and temperature. These results are supplemented by radial distribution function at various temperatures. The observations and analysis of results indicate that, both the clusters retain an HGC conformation from 300 to 400 K, admitting structural fluxionality by the Au18 cluster. Remarkably, the Au18 cluster is able to maintain its hollowness and sphericity up to a high temperature of 1000 K. Underlying structural and electronic properties influencing the individualistic behaviour of cages are highlighted. Composition of the frontier molecular orbitals and the charge distribution play a crucial role in the finite-temperature behaviour of the Au cages. The conclusions are supplemented by supporting calculations on another degenerate ground state Au18 hollow cage and a well-known pyramidal Au18 cage at 300 and 400 K.  相似文献

The BLUF (blue light sensor using flavin adenine dinucleotide) domain is widely studied as a prototype for proton coupled electron transfer (PCET) reactions in biological systems. In this work, the photo-induced concerted PCET reaction from the light state of the AppA BLUF domain is investigated. To model the simultaneous transfer of two protons in the reaction, two-dimensional potential energy surfaces for the double proton transfer are first calculated for the locally excited and charge transfer states, which are then used to obtain the vibrational wave function overlaps and the vibrational energy levels. Contributions to the PCET rate constant from each pair of vibronic states are then analyzed using the theory based on the Fermi's golden rule. We show that, the recently proposed light state structure of the BLUF domain with a tautomerized Gln63 residue is consistent with the concerted transfer of one electron and two protons. It is also found that, thermal fluctuations of the protein structure, especially the proton donor-acceptor distances, play an important role in determining the PCET reaction rate. © 2018 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.  相似文献

This paper shows that exact calculation for transition probability can make some systems deviate fromFermi golden rule seriously. This paper also shows that the corresponding exact calculation of hopping rate inducedby phonons for deuteron in Pd-D system with the many-body electron screening, proposed by Ichimaru, can explainthe experimental fact observed in Pd-D system, and predicts that perfection and low-dimension of Pd lattice are veryimportant for the phonon-induced hopping rate enhancement in Pd-D system.  相似文献

We present three different derivations of the transition probabilities to the continuum. It is shown that calculations, performed as a direct application of the postulates of orthodox quantum mechanics (OQM), do not yield results consistent with experiments. Traditional treatments are summarized and criticized. The relation of the transitions to the continuum with the traditional quantum measurement problem is pointed out; we sum up and comment some contributions concerning this issue. It is shown that an approach based on the notion of spontaneous projections yields expressions of the transition probabilities similar to those obtained in the traditional way and new predictions which could be submitted to experimental tests.  相似文献
